  • iTunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/) - Free jukebox software for managing and playing your music files. Supports and encodes to and from mp3, aac, aif, wav, Apple Lossless, and converts wmv to any of those filetypes. Also accesses the iTunes Music Store.
  • SonicStage 3.1 (http://sonicstage.connect.com/SonicStageInstaller.exe) - Music application that encodes PSP compatible ATRAC3™ and ATRAC3plus™ files

DVD Tools

  • DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/) - Freeware application to extract data from DVDs and remove copy protection.
  • DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/) - Freeware application to extract data from DVDs, remove copy protection, and recompress/reauthor for burning.

Video Encoders

  • Image Converter 2 (http://www.memorystick.com/en/lifestyle/psp/en_us/purchase_us_IC.html) - Sony's official application for converting and managing video files for your PSP. $19.99
  • PSP Video 9 (http://www.pspvideo9.com/) - Free PSP video conversion and management application. It converts regular PC video files (avi, mpeg, etc) into PSP video files, as well as manage/copy these PSP video files between your PC and PSP.
  • RaPiZ PSP Video Converter (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://www.rapiz.net/&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&c2coff=1&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) - Free conversion utility. Contains a lot of encoding options (video/audio bitrate, resolution, number of passes, etc.) but is apparently fairly slow at the actual encoding. Lacks progress indicator. Interface defaults to spanish; you can change the language under the "Configura" button.
  • Mobile Media Maker PSP (http://www.makayama.com/mobilemediamakerpsp.html) - The only direct DVD-to-PSP software available for Windows. Shareware application ($34.95).

DVD Tools

  • D-Vision3 (http://www.objectifmac.com/) - Multipurpose video tool. It's significant use here is it's simplification of combining multiple VOB files into a single file.
  • Yade X (http://www.macetvideo.com/dl_center/dl_center.html) - Freeware DVD extractor. Lets you preview exactly what it is you're ripping so that you know you have the right content. Can also rip individual chapters as VOB files.
  • HandBrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) - Freeware DVD extractor/encoder. Lets you convert video from DVDs to several popular video formats. Especially useful for movies with other than 4:3 aspect ratios, as it has robust cropping options.

Video Encoders

  • ffmpegX (http://homepage.mac.com/major4/index.html) - All purpose speedy encoder. Versions 0.0.9s and above have a built-in preset for encoding video for the PSP.
  • altShiiva (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://hetima.com/psp/altshiiva.php&prev=/search%3Fq%3Daltshiiva%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D) - Encodes video with mixed results. Most importantly, can create THM thumbnail files for your PSP videos.

Media Management

  • iPSP (http://ipsp.kaisakura.com/) - Automatic Game Save Backup, iTunes Playlist integration, iPhoto Album integration, Multiformat video converter, Automated "no hands" operation.
  • PSPWare (http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/pspware) - Syncs music, movies and photos and back up your game saves with an interface and operation similar to iSync.
  • PocketMac (http://www.pocketmac.net/products/pmpsp/psp.html) - Uses iSync to sync photos and music. Its most interesting feature is that it includes Address Book sync by converting contacts to JPG files and putting them in your PSP's image library.
