Is it safe? Need advice.

Hello. I need some help.

A long time ago before the events of 4.0, I used the twilight hack to install the homebrew channel. I used it only for region unblocking which was the Gecko OS program (I had import games). Then I stopped using the channel and decided to delete it because I wanted to quit homebrew and hacking.

Now i'm hearing that people are risking bricks to update their wii to 4.2. And mainly bricking modded wiis. With the history I have had with my wii, is it safe for me to update without getting bricked? How are they defining modded wiis as? My wii is at version 4.0 and my speed is over 100kb/s.
I want to update without hack so I can get onto the wii shop channel again.

If they find any Cios's or anything even a title that shouldnt be there, you have to pay $75 to fix it.

I dont know if any cISOs were installed on my wii. I've only used twilight hack to load up gecko os and to also install homebrew channel to use the program as well. Not sure about titles either. I havent used any ios mod programs or anything like that. Wouldnt 4.2 just remove HBC anyway?

And i said i didnt want to use homebrew stuff anymore. Even that waikoko 4.2 updater is risky. Im safe if i've only used hbc and gecko os directly through twilight hack before right?

waninkoko, and there are safe updates.
people have made already many safe updates to 4.2
And when you edit your nand there is ALWAYS a risk, even nintendo know this.
Update to 4.2 if you wish.

Safe in the wii scene i would consist of Very Unlikely to brick.
I haven't Tried waninkoko's 4.2 but it isnt as risky as Nintendo's way less risky because of 1 big issue.
It doesnt install boot2v4.
Thats the main reason 4.2 bricks, it hangs while installing that.

Okay so it installs everything except for the Homebrew blockers and the boot code. And the Wii will think it has been updated to 4.2?

It install's All NESSASARY IOS's, meaning the boot2v4 code ISNOT installed, the HomeBrew "Blockers" arn't installed and you get all the benifits of the shopping channel
Or you could just stick with 4.1 be safe, *Not having Sex is the best way (just an example)*
and install the shopping channel IOS from 1 of many programs, which is basicly the only thing updated in 4.2

Okay so I have installed Homebrew channel but not Bootmii just in case (not sure about it). How can I use the Waninkoko updater 4.2? I have the dol file in its folder in the apps folder but it's not coming up on the homebrew channel.

Another old post with a simple unanswered question. All homebrew has to be in its own folder in the apps folder (sounds like you're fine there). You must rename the .dol file to boot.dol for the Home Brew Channel to start it. After that, the 4.2 updater will take care of itself if your Wii has Internet access. Just find something else to do for a bit because it can take a while.
