Playstation 3 harddrive size.

Okay so I am really thinking about getting a PS3, not right yet. But probably for Christmas (I will just buy it my self and say its from santa :) because I just don't have money right now) Anyways the first thing I do will be to take out the 80gb harddrive. And through in a new one (I know what type i need just not right now haha, I think its like a laptop sata hd drive or something) anyways does anybody know the max size it can go up to I was thinking about getting a half terabyte one or a 750gb one! But don't know the max I can get to.

Thats precisely the thing... how much can it really handle, and will the system even recognize the new hardware or excess storage?

As long as its the right harddrive type, I hear it will still work. I have seen people with 320-500 gb harddrives in there's.

As long as its 2.5" it'll fit.I bought a 320GB and I'm having trouble finding enough things to fill it up with lol.
Aside from movies, demos, and Linux(only a 10GB partition),there doesnt seem to be much else to put on it that takes up any significant space.
I guess my point is,going really big on an internal hdd might just be wasted space and money.
IMO it'd be better to buy a larger internal (250-320GB) and then if ya need more just find a good external. That way you can use the extra space for the PS3 and the PC.Anyways good luck man hope this helps.

Heres a 500GB i found.

yar :D
It just needs to be set to FAT32 for the PS3 to be able to read it.
Heres some simple step by step instructions if ya need'em.

once its ready and plugged in thru the usb,you can access the media just the same as using a flash drive.
It looks kinda nice too,the external even matches the PS3 lol.
