Composite and Component

So Im looking at a new HD tv and noticed it doesnt have any composite input jacks but it does have 2 sets up component jacks. Can you plug composite cables into a component jack? Wishful thinking.

Nope, the connection gets all messed up so you will need to get an HDTV with composite cable inputs if you wish to plug them in. Or there might be some converter out there. Out of curiosity, what tv were you looking at?

But im leaning more towards the LG cause its actually a brand and not a Best Buy brand. Composite would be nice to have but all i have is my SAT connection (not high Def) and my Xbox (wich will also serve as a upconverter DVD player.

I've read it, I've been told, and its been enforced that if you get a 32 inch tv or smaller then you don't need it to be 1080p because you won't notice the difference on the smaller screen than 40" or 50".

So if you just get a 720p tv, it ought to shed at least $50 on the price.
Also, check out Amazon for prices because you can save another $50 or so usually on there unless there is a sale at another place.

Hmm is it really that much of a non-difference? Iv read that a lot too. Just kinda sceptical yah know. My cousin has a 26 720P in his bedroom and a 42 inch 1080P in the living room and he says he cant tell much difference.

You know 1080P stems from the second number in a resolution, right? For instance, my monitor that is older than sin (crt) can do 1600 x 1200 resolution - 1200P. 1080P is not "new" and you CAN tell a difference from 1080 to 1200. Other clarity factors like contrast ratio and response time really play into how well the picture looks but at the end of the day, 1080P is a MINIMUM that I'd expect of any screen.

^Yes I do know. 1080p is short for the standardized 1920 x 1080 resolution. I'm just saying, its expressed everywhere that on a 32 inch tv or lower that 1080p isn't really necessary, and a lot of people can't even tell the difference on bigger tvs.
But my monitor is a nice 24" 1080p screen .

I think 1080P is a joke to be honest... at the time LCD's came out, it was considered something crazy to hit 1080P because of the limitations that presented themselves initially when they came onto the market, but meanwhile, the CRT market was pumping out crazy high resolutions and not having any bleeding on the edge of the screens and stuff.

I'm using an 18" CRT STILLLLL until I upgrade when my new 23" comes in and then it's 2048 x 1152 resolution for me with a 20,000: 1 contrast ratio

Yeah I mean we don't really have much 1080p content anyway, I'm not sure what resolution HD channels come in (probably 720) and most console game are really in 720p, so at this point 1080p isn't really necessary except on monitors because PC games can look soo much better.

Well, 1080P is a vast difference from 720P. The problem is theres not a whole lot of content that truly runs in native 1080p. If you go to any retailer (Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics...etc) they will almost always be displaying their high end tv's with something that runs native 1080p, thats when you see the difference. I have a 1080p tv (56" Samsung) and bluray is really the only thing that stands out. If you've seen the new LED's, those are effing gorgeous and you will see a huge difference compared to any tv you've seen. I WANT ONE.

So DPM, that LG look like a decent TV?

Oh and the contrast ratio is 50,000:1 I think thats good..

Oh yea that's right, I have one of my systems plugged into my tv and the video cable is plugged into the green component input. I think newer tvs have that ability.
