I just remembered, I highly doubt he regressed because remember when he just walks up and walks with the people that worked there. I highly doubt the marshal guy would have easily walked up with them without asking where they were going and without his partner.
Also another "Whaaat?!" movie is Orphan, check it out if you haven't already.

Definitely, I loved it. It makes you really think in the major turning point of the movie.
