Sweet! I didn't know this, but George Lucas announced yesterday that the Star Wars movies will come out in a special edition set next year on Blu-ray! I'm a big fan of Star Wars, but I don't have a Blu-ray player.
Any of you guys gonna get it? Apparently, it'll be the re-re-re-re-re-remastered version.

Great. Yet another volume of Starwars movies to buy.

You know, I don't even think it's worth it because the original 3 were filmed 30 years ago and 30 year old film still looks like 30 year old film on Blu-Ray.

Don't be a consumer leave this one alone.

But he said the high quality of the bluray would make the special effects look terrible. I guess he is willing to sacrifice it for some more $$? Or maybe they are going to edit it to look better.

Generally when they "edit" an older film it doesn't have the same nostalgia.

Well, just the fact that the base of these bluerays are the sh*t remastered versions that have jabba-the-hut walking around all over. Man that was bad.

Definitely a no-go in my book.

Lucas has been disappointing fans for a long time. I think he needs to do what Gene Roddenberry did and set up an outline for his universe for people to follow and allow the fans to continue the story production for him.

I think having it on Blu-ray is a little different than buying the set that came out on DVD... There was already a set for DVD so there isn't really a reason to upgrade, but if you haven't purchased any videos on DVD (like me) and you're planning to upgrade your collection to Blu-ray and add to it, then I don't see too much of a problem with it.

Problem is he needs to scrap the stupid "enhanced" version and bring back the original films. No extra cheesy explosions, so extra animals, no jabba walking around. The ORIGINAL films that everyone fell in love with.
