Accepted- Xbox Preview

I got accepted into the newest preview for Xbox Live :)

So I get a free Halo Reach disk. I guess I'll sale my other one lol

Anyway, the new dashboard just brings an updated disk format. Microsoft is adding an extra GB to game developers to allow them some more wiggle room and allow them to cut down on the compression they have to do. So games will look better :)

*Note- This will not turn into a console wars thread. The first "Well..PS3 has Blu-Ray so bla bla bla", "M$ Sucks" or anything of the sort will turn into a temporary ban.*

I'm glad Microsoft is helping fellow developers by giving them more space on discs for development!
That will always be better in the long run, no matter what. As for the lack of updates to the dashboard, are you sure they aren't gonna add much new things? What happens if they only want to test the discs and don't want to test the features because they are sure they work?

They may be adding more than just the additional disk space. They already have ESPN and Netflix..and Last.fm so I dont know what else they have to add really. Im sure they can think of things though.

I thought those features were already available on the current system firmware.

They are, bkf said "They already have...". And additional disk space is always awesome :D They could always add like...online banking? Although for me that might be a little too depressing.

I would love if my money was really going towards these services. Im 100% sure Microsoft could strike deals with Netflix say, and provide Gold users with free Netflix subscription. Sure, that $60 might not all be going into Microsoft's pocket, but I sure as heck would continue my Gold subscription if I knew that was an added bonus.

Also, an IPTv service would be awesome too! DVR... :)

Oh, I misunderstood what he was saying...
And you don't know what other features you'd like to see on the 360?
I always say that Microsoft should be smart and include Bing and Internet Explorer integration for extra publicity and to gain more user-base. (Along with some of the Zune/WinMo 7 features.)
I can think of a lot more features the 360 should have, already, along with ones that should be coming out around now. We have a PS3 vs. 360 thread already, but the 360 should really try to keep up with the PS3 in terms of features because that is what a lot of people look at when buying a console.

But, besides that, when I heard about this program a while back, I thought the 360 was going to have a new disc format, like HD-DVD or something.

The last thing I want is an unused feature like Bing or IE on my Xbox.. That would suck.
My Macbook, Computer, Phone, PSP, and iPod Touch can all get on the internet...I think we've covered the Internet aspect.

It already has Zune incorporated into the system.

And I think the Xbox is leading the pack in terms of features I think :/ Yall finally got Netflix..but what about Last.fm and ESPN? What about getting DLC before us for once (lol)?

Uhm..what? HD-DVD is dead lol. Besides that, they would be their userbase if they released an Xbox with HD DVD to play games.

There are still features that can be added. I'm just saying that a lot of people look at that, like I do, when deciding which console to buy.
This update seems like it's just liKe Sony's PSP update that adds, "Extra security measures."
And again, I don't want to challenge anything... No PS3 Vs. 360 in this thread because we have a thread about it, but if you're genuinely asking about it, you can use full ESPN features and Last.fm with the Flash Player in the internet browser. Same with Pandora, YouTube, GrooveShark, Hulu, etc.
And I thought they might try to revive it or get a different kind. That's just what I thought of when I read, "new disc format." I thought it would most likely be a new standard of a double-layered disc or something. But, they aren't.

Ah Crait you bring up an excellent point that I didnt think of. Pretty much, PS3 is Android where you can go online and do anything because of the inclusion of Flash...while Xbox is iOS where everything is proprietary.

That's a good connection to make.
Are you going to get to see the dashboard redesign?

See! That's what I'm talking about when I say cross-platform architecture... Playing Zune and WinMo apps should be available on the 360! ... Well, with some changes for apps that require touch-screen.
They could easily add in SilverLight into the IE for extra publicity because really, no one uses it!
