Who's good at maths?

I borrowed 1000$ from a friend, and 500$ from another. I lost 1000$ so I had 500$ left. I spent 300 of those on shopping, and had 200$ left. I gave 100$ to each friend. I have no money left. So I owe them 900$ and 400$, and I spent 300$ on shopping. 900+400+300= 1600. I started with 1500$ and now have 1600$, hows this possible?

[No, it isn't my maths homework, and I'll be glad to answer if no-one figures it out]

Re: Who's good at maths?

Your supposed to add the $200 you had left, not the $300 you spent, to $900 & $400 ;) You had $200 left, gave $100 to each, so you still owe them $900 & $400 + the $200 you already paid back = $1500.

Re: Who's good at maths?

You can't add your cash-flow and debts together. You spent $300 shopping, but that money came from the $1500 you borrowed. This is easy to track if you account for your debts and assets...

You borrow $1500, so you're in debt 1500, but hold 1500, essentially breaking even. Once you lose the 1000, you've got 500 in assets, and 1500 in debt, breaking to 1000 in debt. You go shopping, spending 300 and it goes into non-liquid assets, essentially leaving you with 200 in assets, 1500 debt, breaking to 1300 in debt. Then with the remaining 200 you pay back to your debt, totaling with your previous balance of
-$1300.

Re: Who's good at maths?

Both right. I asked a few friends, and they couldn't figure it out...
Funny thing, if you explain it, they'll think you're awesome at maths :P

Re: Who's good at maths?

I think brent was just trying to show off with his accounting skills ;) It seems to me more like a word problem than a math problem, if you used numbers that weren't that easy to add and added some more steps it would probably be a bit harder. Sorta like the problems "Theres 10 people on a bus", then you associate like names with each person and say a lot of steps and by the time you get to the end you ask how many people were on the bus and the person has already forgotten.

Sadly we're on a forum, and you can just re-read the stuff if you forget it ;)

Hi! I want to say thank you to the guys who write the work. You provide the best thesis writing services, I can say with confidence. Every friend of mine who ordered work from you confirms this! He says thank you to me for the tip, and advises your services to other guys. Now everyone around you is doing work for you.

Re: Who's good at maths?

Number 5 worksheets are great for teaching children about numbers and one-to-one correspondence. This worksheet is a part of a larger series of number-based activities for young children. This set of twenty images contains several number-related activities that will help your child practice counting and recognizing numbers. Here are a few examples of number 5 worksheets. The first one is a handwriting practice worksheet that asks your child to circle an image that has five items.
All knowledge has a value only when it makes us more capable of activity. If one could imagine omniscience without omnipotence, it would be the most terrible torment of hell.
