Don't forgot then you can be the smartest man in the world but you won't get off your lazy butt if you don't work hard towards something
I think the two go hand in hand though, and anyone can become "smart" if they put the work in towards their goal. The one thing you can't teach is common sense, but like I said I feel like those go hand in hand, if you have any common sense you will probably know the value of hard work.
For instance, I know some pretty "smart" people at school, but when they actually do something as trivial as basic single stage reloading (ammo) they act like they don't have any common sense, and try to cut corners because they are lazy instead of paying attention to what they are doing.
Just saying, remember you can have all the knowledge in the world, but without working hard towards a goal then that future nuclear physicist won't be successful if he doesn't want to put the necessary work in.
