K, just gonna clear a few things up and then I believe that my answer will have been shown through the explanation:
The boss you fought was called Xaldin, he was a member of Organization XIII and was sen't to take Beast's Heartless, you confront Xaldin after chasing him out of the castle after he steals the Beast's rose. What happened was that you were beaten by Xaldin (That's not a bad thing, I'm pretty sure everybody gets their donkey handed to them by him[I mean just look at him he's a badass]),after this you are given two choices much like when you get a game over, those choices are "I won't give up..." and "it's over", if you choose " I won't give up..." then you gain control of King Mickey (Who is a badass) and you are able to do the following things for the following buttons:
Triangle:Charge Drive Gauge(When this is fully charged up it revives Sora)
Square:Pearl(Shoots an orb of light)
X:Attack
Circle:Jump
...I would just like to say this: I BEAT KH2 WOOT YEAH BOO YA!I LOVE THIS GAME!
