We have a health insurance plan that provides some coverage for our family and myself, but it is not perfect. We have actually had to cancel our insurance in the past because of a breakdown in the network, but that’s a rare occurrence.
We use Google Calendar to schedule appointments with doctors, then make sure we have enough money on hand in case we have to cancel. From time to time we will also rent medical equipment from places like e-healthcare.com or get checkups at places like Cigna or Aetna (which offer better coverage than the plans we have).
Our current plan is not perfect but it gets us by most of the time, and it has been working out pretty well for us so far.
Our health insurance costs us between $200 – $300 per month and covers me as well as my wife. We pay into an auto-pay savings account with over $2,000 in it. The savings account goes up every year so we’re able to pay more of it into our family health insurance each year than we would otherwise be able to do. I think it’s worth mentioning that having an auto-pay account is one way to save money on your health insurance if you do not want Obamacare (which would require paying for your own doctor).
If you are reading this post, you probably already know about Obamacare (or if you don’t, here is a great way to start learning about it). But Obamacare isn’t really relevant here as I cannot advise anyone to sign up for Obamacare as I am not affiliated with any healthcare company or anything else related to health care whatsoever and I am instead referring you here only because I think there are people who don’t know about Obamacare and might benefit from knowing about it. They are the large majority of people who read this blog anyway; the ones who will be reading this post anyway; and they are probably all reading this post anyway too (I hope). If you want them to know about Obamacare go read that link right now, get all geared up by making your taxes and contributions go towards getting yourself some “insurance coverage” on your own — which is what they probably should be doing anyway — then go get yourself some “insurance coverage” from Uncle Sam!
