Bit of a noob at this sort of stuff, I assumed you had to put a 1.50 kernel add-on to the PSP also cos I thought homebrew could only be played on 1.50

There are 3 types of homebrew:
1.0, 1.50, and 3.XX.
Any CFW can run 3.XX CFW, but only phats can really run 1.50 homebrew, slims can't.
Although new cfw require you to manually addon the 1.50 kernel.

Well once I got the CFW on the PSP I'll come on and ask if i need anything else, probably will upgrade to 3.90 M33 afterwards anyway.

ok so i used this tutorial a few weeks back for my psp phat, and now ive bought a slim. Last time i borrowed my friends SD 512 card, but i couldnt this time so i bought a 1gig (smallest i could find in stores....wtfmate) anyway, i use the installer and pick option 4, but when i put my pandora battery in no menu pops up. I get the green light to go on, the ms light to flash a few times, the screen to flicker but it stays on and blank. My slim has 3.71 OF atm so i dont think i can pick option 3. Any suggestions?

Edit: i tried one of the manual MMS tutorials, and i got the menu to come up, but it results in a partial brick (the sony screen comes up, then i see the waves, but they freeze before the XMB menu comes up)

Hey y'all, having trouble getting this to work, I follow the prompts to the end and I get an error where it says something about not recognising it as an internal or external source, can't remember what the message says exactly though.

Any help.

Just gonna go back and I'll tell you exactly how I do it quickly.

First off I dump all the files to the root of my memory stick and double click start and it brings up the command prompt.

It asks me to format my memory stick so I do this.

It asks me to select my drive letter so I type my drive letter F.

It asks me to insert a new drive so I flick out the memory stick and pop it back in.

In then asks me to force a dismount on this volume and I select yes.

Then it asks me to type in the volume label so I press enter.

i then pop out the memory stick and disconnect USB before popping it back in and reconnecting and I get this message.

i select 4 from the menu and this happens.

'3 cannot be recognised as an internal or external source.

Don't get what you mean, I used this tutorial to downgrade my own PSP it just doesn't seem to want to work for my mates PSP.

I have a bizarre occurence now, I used the program RoxFox recommended but now I can't access service mode cos the PSP boots up standard even with the Pandoras battery, could someone just explain the commands required to use the Newbinstaller so I can do it that way, just wanna know where I am going wrong.

Background:
I have a slim which came with 3.90, a SanDisk 2GB ms, and a Datel service battery.

I followed the instructions and selected option 4 from the installer (3.71 and recovery mode).

When it came to installing the firmware I had the expected blank screen of doom. I pressed [] and the memory stick started flashing - this was dumping the NAND. It shut off so I reinserted the battery.

Again, a blank screen so I pressed X to install the firmware.

Once all was installed (takes a few minutes), I removed the battery and ms, rebooted, and my PSP had the correct custom firmware installed.

So, even with the blank screen, as long as you know the correct buttons, the tutorial works fine - so don't panic.

I love you :)
