how to make gameboots

ok this is the tutorial on how to make your own gameboot.pmf (a.k.a. the little video that plays when you start a game)
i worked on getting this to a point where it was simple to do and i think i found it. the main difference you will see right off the bat is im not going to tell you you need 20,000 different

programs to do this, with my method you only need 3.

TMPGenc
umd tools (i cant give you this it is illegal but if you look hard anuff you will find it)
mps to pmf

now that you have the tools lets get started...

1.get your video, you can download in just about any format you want it dosn't matter.

2 open TMPGenc and start by selecting "set source" and add the video file you want to use.

3. first clip info set the aspect ratio to 16:9 for the wide screen and 4:3 for a square none full screen view. next editing must be done on the video your game but can only have 72 frames at 29.97 fps so your gameboot will be about 2 and half seconds long any more and you will not see the end so choose your start frame at the point you want and the end frame as well. when you click ok it will show the clip info as well as the frame count so check there to make sure every thing is right.

4. next set your out put to avi its the only format that will work in the up coming steps. make sure the size is set to 480x272.
Image

5. ok now comes the encoding part you can preview and rename and direct the output for the new video you are making and than just click "start output"

6. ok next step using the umd tools you will want to select "UMD stream composer" its buried in the folders its in side the bin i think. start a new clip and make sure your settings are "max clip size: 1mb" and click "psp movie format" if you dont do this it will not work.

7. now select video source from the menu bar and select the video clip you just made.(this step is not needed you dont have to have sound) select sound source also on the menu bar and pick a sound it should be a wav format and should be set to frequency 44100hz 16bit and be stereo.

8. ok now go to run and select "encode + multiplex" after a few munits it will finish and you will have made a .mps and are almost done.
Image

9. now go to the "my documents" folder and open the "umdstreamcomposer" folder and than "mux work" than the folder named after the project you made the .mps in than open "00001" you will find your mpf here.

10. copy the mpf and move it to the "gameboot" folder in side the "mpstopmf" folder and run the app "Gameboot Converter.bat" it will make a new file named "00001.pmf" rename it to gameboot.pmf and put it in flash0:/vsh/resorce but save the origanl one first just incase. you are now done enjoy

ps here is one i just made during that tutorial download[/img]

(a quick note you can make the icon1.pmf for psx gameboots this way as well just set the output size in step 4 as 144x80)
here is a test is did

if you want audio to go along with the icon1.pmf file you need to make a SND0.AT3 audio file i believe. i never did figure out how to include the audio with the gameboot.pmf. All the gameboot files i have found though happened to include audio somehow, so there must be some way.

Well I finally made a .PMF file but the picture didn't fill up the icon and there was some gray static stuff around it, guess I gotta figure out how to resize it.

EDIT: Here is what my gameboot looks like, http://fs05u.sendspace.com/processupload.html. I've tested it out and it doesn't brick or anything on my psp. Take a look at it and see if you can tell me whats wrong with it please :D.
I have a few pictures that pop up since the main picture isn't big enough to take up the whole screen.

Instead of using TMPGenc, all you need is about any Video editing program.

i cant find a tutorial that i can use.
either it's this one that i will delete after you read it : or one that i cant get the programs to use for it like the one posted here.

3. Tutorial on how to make custom gameboots

For best results make gameboot 2.5 secounds

Step 1, WinMenc
1: Open up WinMenc
2: Go to add files
3: Find the video you want to use
4: Go to load profile
5: Select PSP AVI profile
6: Go to the audio tab
7: Select no audio on the drop down menu
8: Go to the video tab, and make sure the FPS is 29.970
9: Go to the batch tab
10: Select your output folder
11: Hit encode
12: Now go back to the audio tab
13: Select MP3 from the drop down list
14: Go to the video tab
15: Select no video.
16: Now go to batch and encode this.
17: You should now have two files. The video and sound separate

Step 2, WAV converter & Virtual Dub Mod
1: Open up the WAV converter
2: Go to add, then change file types to all
3: Find the MP3 from your video
4: Select output format as WAV
5: Hit start
6: That’s the audio out of the way
7: Now open up virtual dub mod
8: Go to file , then open video file
9: Find the video part of your file
10: Now go to save as
11: Make sure its going to save as an AVI
12: And that’s that. You now have the source files ready

Step 3, Sony UMD Tools
1: Open up the UMD Stream composer.exe
2: Go to new
3: Name it what you want. Click next
4: Tick the PSP Movie format (for game) bit.
5: Change the max clip size to 2mb or less
6: Hit finish
7: Go to video source
8: Find your video file made earlier with Virtual Dub Mod
9: Go to audio source
10: Find the WAV you made earlier with the MP3 to WAV converter.
11: Now go to run at the top
12: Choose encode + multiplex
13: Hit start
14: Well done the .mps has been made

Step 4, .mps to .pmf Converter
1: Go to My Documents (well yours)
2: Go to the UMD Stream composer folder
3: The .mps file is in here somewhere (I forget where exactly!)
4: Now rename the .mps file to gameboot.
5: Put it in the same directory as the .mps to .pmf converter
6: Run the converter (Click Run Me)
7: And your gameboot.pmf should be created

Now flash it your PSP using X-flash. As long as you have custom firmware installed with recovery mode, there are no worries!
