Ever wanted to make your own PMF files

I will tell you how to make your source file since that is not illegal. Converting it with the umd composer software is illegal. Anyways... here goes....

You'll Need a MPS2PMF converter wich i think you can get at www.psp-hacks.com

Download and Install: VirtualDubMod and AviSynth

Install AviSynth first.
Now extract VirtualDubMod to a folder.
Find the file you want to convert.
Once found, open up notepad.
Type the following lines in the text document.

DirectShowSource("YOURVIDEOFILEHERE.EXTENSION")
lanczosresize(480,272)
changefps(29.97)

-----------------------------------------------------------

Replace YOURVIDEOFILEHERE.EXTENSION with the name of the file you want to convert including its extension. For example,

lanczosresize(480,272)
changefps(29.97)

Now save your text document in the same folder as your movie file. Make sure you save it as an .AVS file and not a .TXT file. This is done by changing "Save as type" to "All Files" and adding the extension the the filename you are going to save it as, eg, NARUTO.AVS.

Now locate the folder you extracted virtualdubmod to. open VirtualDubMod.exe

Go to File>Open File. Find your .AVS file. Open that. you should now see your video file in the window.

Now go to Streams>Stream List.

Click Save WAV. After it is saved click disable. Now go to OK.

Now go to File>Save As. name your avi file and click save.

Almost there now. Last step!

Find your WAV file you saved. Open it with sound recorder. Go to File>Save As.

Where it says Format at the bottom of the save window, click on Change.

Format should be: PCM
Atrributes: 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo 172kb/sec.

Click ok. Now save your WAV as a new name.

Sony UMD Tools

1: Open up the UMD Stream composer.exe
2: Go to new
3: Name it what you want. Click next
4: Tick the PSP Movie format (for game) bit.
5: Change the max clip size to 2mb or less
6: Hit finish
7: Go to video source
8: Find your video file made earlier with Virtual Dub Mod
9: Go to audio source
10: Find the WAV you made earlier.
11: Now go to run at the top
12: Choose encode + multiplex
13: Hit start
14: Well done the .mps has been made

Step 4, .mps to .pmf Converter

1: Go to My Documents (well yours)
2: Go to the UMD Stream composer folder
3: The .mps file is in here somewhere (I forget where exactly!)
4: Put it in the same directory as the .mps to .pmf converter
5: Run the converter (Click makenewpmf.bat)
6: And your pmf file(s) should be created

Now flash it your PSP using X-flash. As long as you have custom firmware installed with recovery mode, there are no worries!

Thats it! it seems tedious work but it becomes very easy once you get the hang of it. Good Luck!

We do have an older one, but I have asked DARKPSP to create a tutorial so that I could add on to the existing one. I will add this in the master guide under the same number.

I don't find a problem with two tutorials for the same thing. I have been known to try 3 different tutorials before I got something right before.

I don't care if one process took 3 days to finish. Alternate methods of achieving the same end result are always welcome. I must have gone through 10 different tutorials to compress psx games... ugh... hated that. I hated finding them more.. so having more of the same isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

Haha I know what you mean DPM, i often scatter the net for numerous tutorials of doing things, many different tutorials do help . I'm working on this .PMF stuff atm, been looking at about 5-6 tutorials.. I think I almost got it..

Just tried this tonight. Holy mother of god did it take a while to do this. Most of my time spent finding UMD tools... finally did it, and got my intro working on the first try! woot woot.

Does this only work if the .PMFs are less than 'xx' MB or a 5 seconds or something? I'm sure I can make a running PMF bigger than that, however I am having no luck . Did you follow this tutorial, Brent?

You can make it longer... i just didn't want to wait forever for my psp to boot

Im trying to make a custom ICON1.PMF file to appear when I play my PSX games. I am able to make .PMF files but they don't seem to work. I guess I'll try again.

I've been using TMPGEnc, and UMD Tools. However when I mod the Video files and tried to upload them it says:

Some invalid files, which have different size or frame rate, are included in the selected files. And I can't upload the video.

Gotta make sure the frame rate is 29.97 fps

I set the framerate to 29.97 fps (Progressive), so I guess it is something else.
