You'll be taking it almost completely apart. The plus side is the slim doesn't have too many parts and isnt that hard to disassemble. The right side of the PSP doesn't have to be taken apart though. Just need to get the motherboard and all the left side internals out.

ah dang... I can honestly say that taking apart a phat psp is really annoying and hard to get back together. I hope the slim is easier because I want to do this mod.

whenever i took apart a phat, i kept thinking that the thing looked like it was thrown together with crappy parts and like, was crammed into a piece of plastic. Putting it back together was like re-packing a suitcase after a vacation...

and i think i'm gonna just get a daxter pack off of ebay or from EB games used...

sorry for the triple post but they are all un-related...

i got a silver slim, but i have a few questions before i do this

What if you get a brick? can you make a Magic SD card?

Also, can somebody post a picture of the inside of the psp with this mode already done so i can see what i need to do to fit the ribbon wire through the inside?

I havent tried making a MMS with this. I don't think it would work though personally. I would rather just use a regular MMS if anything happened, which would require opening the psp back up.

Theres really only 1 place for the ribbon cable to go. If you do attempt the mod you'll see it. I dont remember exactly, but its super easy to fit this inside your psp.

wont work. has to be official sony stick and 1 gig or less to do so. also wise not to brick it once done cause you have to take it apart to get to the memory slot

I see.... so a brick would be quite the inconvenience then. When you say sony stick i'm assuming you mean a Memory stick duo not an actual sony ms..?

I've heard about someone doing this mod and having it hardwired to the MS slot internally, allowing the free usage of the slot if needed. If you're good with a soldering iron you could take that approach, otherwise doing it the easy way like me will make it a b***h to fix anything if it goes wrong. I suggest using your pandora to backup everything, flash0, IPL and keys, BEFORE you do this mod (I didn't and had to rip 'er open again to make my backups).

i'll probably just do what you did because its less messy, but thanks. Where is that UMD switch that was causing you trouble?

Its on the back of the motherboard. You can't miss it. I believe it was a little white lever inside of a black box. If you are careful about removing it then you can easily put it back on in the future if the need arises. Just taking a small flathead screwdriver to the base of one of the sides that is clipped down is all it takes. Super easy.

What do you mean "removed the UMD sensor?"

Its a little switch connected to the back of the motherboard that pokes through the case into the UMD slot area. When a UMD is inserted it presses the switch so the PSP knows to activate the UMD lazer and read the disc. By doing this mod, the board the SD slots are attached to will press on this switch and the PSP will continually think there's a disc in it. This isn't a serious problem unless you use PSPFiler, which will only let you browse the content of your Memory Stick. It won't allow you to view anything else because the next device is the UMD, and it will get stuck at reading cause it can't read a UMD though it thinks one is inserted.

Simply removing it like I said before will keep your PSP thinking that there's a UMD in it.
