My guess, he desoldered it with desoldering braid and a low wattage soldering iron.

The switch consists of 3 parts... there's a small base that's attached to the motherboard, the switch itself, and like a hood that the switch sticks through that clips onto the base. If you just use a small screwdriver you can get in between the base and the hood, lifting the hood and switch off and leaving the base on the motherboard. Doing it this way allows you to replace the switch should you choose to.

Its really not that hard... hopefully this picture helps.

I finally finished the mod. I dont have the 16gb sticks yet but i have the dang thing internalized. The only small problems i have would be trying to make it stay centered (it wants to push left because the ribbon wire is a little long), and that it takes a little longer to boot up but i think its because the cards i'm testing with are rediculously slow. And i did remove that UMD sensor. I put some electrical tape on the back so that that really flimsly looking ribbon wire didnt come off, and i'm glad I did.

maybe i'll post some pictures up soon.

A slightly old thread, but I thought I'd give my impressions of the mod since completion.

It's been a couple months since I internalized this beast of ultimate storage. As of now I have a hand-full of emulators with thousands of roms, around 10 psp games, and seasons 1-4 of the office. I still have maybe 3 gb left on my psp. Overall, I love it. I can throw whatever I want on my PSP, and never have to worry about storage. This has become especially useful since I live in Japan and commute by train. My PSP gets about 2 hours of use every day, and its nice to have variety and be able to switch things up when I want.

The only thing I wish I would have done was buy 32gb SD cards! If you've got the money, do the mod. Its easy, and you can slowly upgrade the SD cards too. Start out with only 1 16gb card and buy another down the road when you have more money.

I havn't gotten my 16gb cards yet, but i've tested it out with two 2gb sd's just to see how it works and its beautiful!

How did you secure your card-holder thing inside the psp, with tape or hot glue, or...?

I just used some double sided tape... the thick foamy type. It holds it strong and I haven't had any problems with it moving around or anything. If you do the tape route you'll want something a little thicker to give you some room to get the SD cards out if necessary. I would say there's no reason to use glue.
