How to use a proxy, and what are they?

Well, I've heard from a friend that you can use a proxy to bypass the school's blocking filters.

Is there any way of actually bypassing the schools filters?
I don't know what a proxy is, I tried to google one here at school, but it blocks those also.

It also blocked PSPbrew.com, but I just used one of the alternative links and it wasn't blocked. It would be pretty cool to know this, that way I could learn more about the proxy itself.

Thanks in advance!

Proxy can refer to a few things. The most common is the kind that obviously students refer to, you go to a website (the proxy) and inside like a frame there is another sorta web browser that you can use to access any web browser that you want to. The school's filter still thinks your own that proxy website, but really inside of the dynamic frame you are on whatever website you want.

Depending on your schools filter that they use (mine uses websense), it's very easy to use a proxy, and access whatever website you want to. Try googling for a list of proxies on your home computer then try them at school.

Ohh, okay. Thanks a lot.
I guess I'll have to wait 'till I get home then.

Proxy sounds pretty cool. :D

Try something like proxywebsite.org since your at school right now. Or
http://www.proxy-website.com/
http://www.ievi.net/
http://www.keepbrowse.com/

One of those might work.

Tried using ultrasurf, the computer blocked it.

I'll just store a proxy into my PSP and then I'll put it up on my schools computers.
Thanks for the quick answers fellas.

My school doesn't allow downloading many different file extensions and using EXE's are limited because you can't put any new ones on the machine.
There's ways around it, but to not download anything, check out PHProxy.

did it block the downlaod, or the actual program? because you can always put it on a flash drive and then start it up at school.

It would do it to both.
If you download it and save it as a .EXET and rename it on the desktop, it would. Or if I were use a flashdrive.
