compatibility

Alright, I am new with modifying PSP although I have some experience with other systems.

I recently customized my firmware on a PSP2001 and for the most part it works. However I am having trouble with running multiple types of homebrew applications. Typical I receive the following type of error: The game could not be started. (80010087) when trying to run it; the number in parenthesis changes depending on the application.

I am currently running the 4.01 M33-2 kernel and from the service menu I have also tested the 1.50 kernel on the programs that require 1.50. I have not tested the 5.x kernel yet.

I haven't upgraded to 5.x because of rumors of poor compatibility compared to 4.x

Are rumors about 5.x compatibility false? Or can someone provide some advise as to why I might be receiving the errors?

I appreciate any help the community can provide. Thank you!

You should definitely not be getting this error. I'd advise you to upgrade to the latest m33 firmware.

Boot into recovery mode and change your umd mode to sony np 9660

You're problem right now might just be that you have it set to umd required in which case setting it to sony np9660 will allow you to run anything without having to pop a umd into your umd tray. This is found in configurations area of recovery i believe...

Thank you for your assistance. I did as you both suggested. I first upgraded to the most recent firmware, I then tested a couple of applications that were not working and it did not resolve the issue. I then attempted to change the UMD mode to Sony NP 9660 and ended with the same results.

The odd thing is some homebrew programs work perfectly, such as SNESxTL 0.24me. But others like the most recent version of AFKIM will attempt to load, but then result in the error that I noted earlier.

I still think I might be making a n00b mistake, any more advice? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

You might be trying to load up 1.5 kernal programs.
(Older programs that were made for the old PSP.)
