My guess is that you have the file in the wrong folder. Try placing it in the PSP\SAVEDATA folder in a folder with the same name as the sony code for your UMD disk if it is not there already.

ie: PSP\SAVEDATA\SCEA12345678910

I don't know the code for the monster hunter 2 game (because I don't own it) but there are programs out there that can pull that for you.

Another thing you can do to get the proper name is clear out all the files from your SAVEDATA folder and then create a save slot in the game. Exit out from the game and look to see what folder is in SAVEDATA and that would be the one for your game and where the save file belongs.

If this still doesn't work then you may just have downloaded a bogus file. These things happen, find another one.
