You are right, not straight out of the box. There is a lot of time-consuming pain coming your way
First you need to buy a Pandora Battery from Datel. Google it.

Once you use pandora to downgrade you can upgrade to the lastest custom firmware.
4.01M33-2 With that you will be able to play homebrew, ISOs, PSX, and any UMD game.

you could always make your own pandora battery too...

Or you could make one with the switch (if your good at wiring & saudering..etc) so you dont need to replace the battery.
