i need help with a dell 1525 laptop, it has windows vista basic on it i have tryed many times to start it up, once u get to the log on selection screen it comes up with a message "log in could not be instigated" or something like that does anyone know how i can fix this, i wouldn't ask but the data on the laptop can't be erased it is vital, so i can't fix it by just shoving the recovery disk in to wipe the harddrive

Well I would recommend booting off of something like a Flash drive into some OS like a disto of linux and copying all of your important stuff to the Flash then wipe the drive. idk how well that would work.... and you would need access to another pc

Also I think you mean initiated or initialized It means that for some reason the log in could not be completed

I dont think Repair would wipe anything I know in XP when you do that it just restores system files. Idk how vista does it but I assume it is the same... And I think after you get though all this you should get XP. Its 999999999999 etc. times better

Not to be rude or anything of that sort, but keep in mind that if you go to a forum where the discussions are mostly game related (PSP), you might not always get full help with other issues like your computer and OS issues. Though there are times our PSP gurus here are like genius to almost anything. Be that as it may, if you don't get the answer you need, kindly surf the web or join a PC help related forum (I hear that Dell has it's own support forum). Good luck and do tell us what you end up doing to fix this.
