Hi guys was wondering or i guess asking if i make it so my psp can play nes and super nes....etc. other cool stuff can i still play regular umd games?

yes of course! some newer firmwares like 5.50 Gen D support even the Newest games, although the online feature for games doenst work. you can still surf the web just fine.
some older firmwares liike Dark_alex's good old 5.00M33 may not be able to run ALL the new umd's, but it has online support.

i have a psp 3000 will the 5.5 gen d work for nes emulator? how do i do it i was under the impression that i had to downgrade psp to a 1.5 version??? confused

That's a waaay out of date method.and yes gen D will work. You will need the chickHen exploit (I have little experience with, sorry)
What firmware do you have right now? DONT UPDATE

I have zero experience with ChickHEN but I know that Pandora's Battery is a method that can work for you. I've written a tutorial about it in our tutorials section.
