new to homebrew - help

Sup guys

I started university this year and seeing as I have alot off free time i have abducted my brothers old PSP (Version 2.0.1)

So ive been taking it with me, watching movies, playing liberty city stories whatnot and suddenly the UMD laser readerthing stops reading.. so after googling a way to fix it and found a way to clean it and that didn't work.

But after further examination I found the idea of emulators for the psp, homebrew and all that jazz. I read on and read about downgrading to the original version 1.5 and all this confusing stuff.

So now the UMD laser doesnt work and Im not paying to get a new one im jumping on the 'f**k sony' bandwagon and i want to get into pirate games, only problem is i have no idea where to start.

I have a PSP ver 2.0.1 and a 2GB mem stick duo

Ok,well first thing we need to know is if its a ta-028 ,to do that check here .
Once we know what motherboard it is we can work from there.

I don't see any numbers in the top left or right corners of my popped UMD slot

if i were u i would update to 2.71 and use the easy downgrader that can be found here and on psp-hacks.com. i'll look for it later and post the link, but right now im realy busy.

Ok firstly, I said my drive won't read, do I need to use the LCS hack to downgrade?

Secondly, can I get some information on why we downgrade to 1.5 and update to a custom version in language i can understand

well 1.5 has an exploit so you can run homebrew, on higher versions sony has patched over it with security to stop it from happening

Your going to need to fix your umd laser because you need a umd in your psp to be able to play homebrew...3.03 oe-c is capable of running no-umd mode but not all games are compatible with no-umd (just thought i'd give you a heads up before you follow thru and get frustrated)

Its it the majority that can play without UMD?

Would http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/776 be suffecient to downgrade?

Once downgraded, I download the 3.03 upgrade?

its all so confusing

EDIT:!!!! Ok im now 3.03 OE-C And its awesome and UMD IS SUDDENLY WORKING!!!

Now how do i get games on? 'devhook' or something?
