Description:
Art comes back to us at the QJ forums with another 'brew version of his Virtual Tape Recorder. It's now called Audio Mechanica and it's actually an updated version of Virtual Tape Recorder v5b. He renamed it thus since there are two new features that don't have much to do with the tape recorder. The two new features are:
* The Digital Delay Processor - can delay an audio channel by a user defined value. This could save on a stand alone piece of equipment that does the same job.
* The Yakback Emulator- uses voice activation routines to record continuous chunks of sound, and auto playback each continuous sound chunk. This works rather like a parrot, repeating everything you say after each pause. In fact, this feature is the beginnings of possible speech recognition features or lie detection program incorporated in the 'brew in the future versions.
Otherwise, the Virtual Tape Recorder and the Voice Activation modes work as they do in the previous versions. To get the 'brew going in your PSP, follow these instructions:
1. Copy the two 'Audio_Mechanica' folders into your PSP/GAME directory, and be sure there is at least 20Mb free on your Memory Stick. Although the application itself is small, a 20Mb "Reel.wav" file will be created in the program directory when the program is first launched.
2. Plug in your Headphone remote, and Socom compatible headset, then when you launch the program, and the Reel.dat file is created on your Memory Stick, you are presented with a screen that contains some display data in green that indicates the recorder is initialy started in playback mode.
* Use D pad up and down to cycle program modes between Tape Recorder mode, Voice activation mode, Demo Effect modes, Yakback Emulator mode, and Echo Processor mode.
* To adjust the audio bitrate (and recording time) press sideways on the D pad while in a recorder mode.
* To toggle between Record and Playback modes, press Triangle while playing or recording is stopped. Red text will indicate that the recorder is in record mode. The Digital Delay Processor, and Yakback Emulator modes both force recording mode to be active for their operation.
* To start or stop recording or playback, or to start the selected effect mode, press Cross. Recording or Playback is started from the current reel position displayed in data words, and also expressed in Megabytes (0 - 22 Mb). The virtual tape Reel will auto loop if it reaches the upper limit during playback, and will auto stop if a recording is allowed to reach the end of the reel while in Tape Recorder, or Voice Activation mode.
* To Fast Foward or Rewind the reel position press the Left or Right Shoulder buttons. The virtual tape Reel will auto loop if it reaches the upper or lower limit unless playing. Fast foward and Rewind functions do not work while recording.
* To reset the index position press Square while in stop mode.
* To erase the reel in RAM, and delete the reel.wav file, press Play on the headphone remote while holding down the Square button on the PSP unit.
* Press Circle to exit the program. A prompt will then provide the option to save changes to the reel.
* Headphone remote buttons duplicate some of these features. See the included diagram.
